  • UKRI-JST Joint Project with University of Oxford. Title: Ensuring the Benefits of AI in Healthcare for All: Designing a Sustainable Platform for Public and Professional Stakeholder Engagement
The central aim of this research is to identify effective strategies to support an engagement platform for Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can sustain dialogue and engagement between a range of stakeholders including patients and the public. This will stimulate the creation of an interdisciplinary, multi-sectoral, global ecosystem to support the implementation of AI in healthcare in Japan and the UK for the benefit of society.

  • JST RISTEX project Establishment of evidence-generating commons using ICT and its application to the medical policy
This project explores the potential for patient involvement in medical research and policy making through shared participation in discussion-based activities utilizing an ICT platform for rare and intractable diseases, RUDY Japan. Allowing for communication between key actors, patients, researchers and policy makers, we propose to explore the potential of RUDY Japan to serve as an evidence generating commons for medical research and policy.

The Everyday Lived Experiences of Disabled University Students in London and Osaka
Working from a social model of disability, this research aims to understand the everyday lived experiences of disabled university students in London and Osaka. It will comprise two parts. First, an auto-ethnography, through video/film of the everyday lives of disabled students; and second, semi-structured interviews, to be conducted by the disabled research student participants, involved in the study.

Up to a total of twelve disabled students, six in each city, with different impairments (e.g., sensory, physical, mental/emotional, hidden and learning) will be recruited in London and Osaka.

Each participant will document their own everyday experience through video/film auto-ethnography to capture a `day in their life'. This would include: their experience of negotiating the built environment from the time they leave their homes; their journeys to the university; any challenges they face once they arrive; as well as any other experiences, they have, if they travel to other social and public spaces, including parks, shops and restaurants.
